Dwight began singing like so many others in the church choir. From there he sang several different styles from Jazz to Country to Rock n' Roll. Soft romantic ballads are his strength, but dynamic upbeat numbers let him shine also. The ease with which he is able to perform so many types of music is a testimony to his true talent. His first professional music experiences took him to Wichita, Kansas, where he performed with a jazz great, Sammy Tucker, and to Denver, Colorado. His group in Denver performed at the Red Rocks Jazz Festival which featured Freddie Hubbard, Bobbie Humphreys, Ramsey Lewis and Herbie Mann. At this time he left the music business to lead a more "normal" life while starting a family. After moving to Columbus, Ohio, the desire to sing professionally returned. He has since performed around the state for many businesses, pageants (including the Ms. Ohio Scholarship Program), festivals, fraternal organizations, private parties, fund raisers, and special club dates. During his "A Night with Nat King Cole" show, people have commented "you can close your eyes and hear Nat." Although he does not impersonate or want to be compared to other singers, audiences always "hear" the greats of the industry in Dwight's voice. Dwight's repertoire includes music by Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, James Ingram, Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett, Sinatra, The Temptations, The Drifters, Lou Rawls, from Broadway shows, and many others.
